Montréal Girls tells the story of Basil, a young Egyptian student who is off to Montréal on a med school scholarship. There he meets his wild cousin who introduces him to the city's vibrant underground subcultures and thrilling nightlife. This exciting new world inspires Basil's innate desire to become a poet and hurls him into a tumultuous relationship with two young women who shatter his perceptions and reveal to him his destiny.

Montréal Girls is an ensemble dark comedy portraying semi-autobiographical scenes and includes predominant characters, actors, collaborators, and personalities from Montreal's underground, a world I have documented and explored extensively in my past work! It is a tribute to Montreal's colorful subcultures that have taken me on a creative journey as a filmmaker: From hardcore bands to rockabilly clubs, burlesque, fetish, and other unique underground microcosms. It is also a poignant and moving coming-of-age tale that perfectly captures the challenges and nuances of a young man's transformation into a poet as he crosses an ocean and enters an explosion of culture, freedom, and responsibility. The choices he makes amid the high stakes for his success are what makes Montréal Girls a gripping, touching, and contemporary motion picture experience for a new globally minded generation of youth.

Role # 1 Tamir
Seeking 1 talent(s) for this role

Quebecois punk-rocker from Egyptian descent, must be able to sing and play
electric guitar like a hardcore punk.

TAMER grew up in Montréal from a divorced Egyptian father and a FrenchCanadian mother. He is fully bilingual, and speaks perfect Québécois French. He is a singer in a hard core punk band. Roguish, street smart, rebellious, brooding, and intelligent, he talks with sarcasm and wit. He can come across as chauvinistic, cocky, and thinks he has women all figured out. There might exist a philosophical depth beneath his rough-hewn surface. Music is his primary obsession, and when it comes to punk and hard-core, he is a classic music snob. [Quebecois accent optional, as long as his English sounds North American].

NOTES: The actor who will play Tamer must exude that rebellious inner attitude of the punk rocker. Think The Clash in the late 70’s. In the scene when TAMER meets his cousin BASIL for the first time, he acts really cool, up beat, and wants his cousin to feel welcomed. He wants to make a good impression not necessarily to be liked but to make his cousin feel at home in his own family home. He never cares about what other people think of him. he's just a rebel with a good heart. In all the other scenes, his true nature comes out more as a blasé young man, disillusioned by the music industry. The "Tiger in the Zoo" monologue is something he tells Basil, in all confidence, while they're having drinks at a local dive bar. It's one of the moments when Tamer is feeling the most low in his life.

Seeking 5 talent(s) for this role

They are musicians in a hard-core punk band called Anwar Sedated, fronted by Tamer. Sarkis plays bass and Sammy plays drums. They alternate easily between being the brash and cocky band guys and goofy, good-humored, typical teenage boys. They can be funny and crass and cheeky all at once. They love a good night out of hard partying, but are still dedicated to band life. They share Tamer’s music snobbery, and are purists when it comes to their favorite bands.
